Supporting Laotian Heritage Artisans

We work with a Laotian-based NGO, Saoban, which supports the livelihood and development of heritage artisans across ten provinces in Laos.

Having lived through the American War and Secret War of the 1960s, as well as the revolutions in 1970's, many of these heritage artisans have first-hand experiences of hardship caused by the war. Crafting has become not only a source of income for these women, through the process of art creations, many of them have also successfully turned weapons of terror into beautiful everyday objects, such as the recycled bomb waste spoons.

Through the development programmes by Saoban, these heritage artisans are not only able to maintain a steady level of income, but also receive trainings in areas such as financial awareness, quality control and product grading which improve their positions in the market. We are proud to be doing our part in supporting these heritage artisans and in making sure that their stories do not turn into silence.
